2021 Keller Schubertslay Alte Reben Kabinett Auction
We first introduced Loersch, the Mosel estate working the awesome and overlooked Apotheke vineyard, a bit over a year ago.
The house style is lavish, glycerin-rich and mouth-coating, yet fierce, forceful and with sharp and polished acids. In short: The wines sorta have everything.
Loersch has long been the darling of the top critics (like Mosel Fine Wines, quoted below) and when we saw the glorious review, quoted in full below, and noted that they would be sending this Auction Kabinett to the Bernkasteler Ring auction - the auction with the smallest international audience - we knew the stage was set for a deal.
And that's what we got... we tried to buy as much as we could. We only got 60 bottles.
The thrill of the 2022 vintage is an extreme delicacy, a lightness that recalls the great "classic" vintages of the 1990s and early 2000s. As we move into a hotter world, the angelic vibrations of vintages like this will resonate more and more... don't miss.
And if you had more serious auction ambitions, but missed your target(s) by some euros or are having second thoughts, we also have a few rarities to offer from the blue-chip greats. Every single price is, so far as we can tell, either the lowest or the only price in the nation.
However, PLEASE NOTE quantities here are even more limited and these will be sold first come, first served.
Happy hunting and thank you for your support as always!
All auction wines should arrive in the spring of 2024.
2022 Loersch Apotheke Kabinett Auction
"The Apotheke Riesling Kabinett 2022, as it is referred to on the central part of the label, was made from fruit picked at 83° Oechsle in the terraced part of the Vogelsang, a sector high up the hill, and was fermented down to fruity-styled levels of residual sugar (44 g/l). It proves still marked by residual scents from its spontaneous fermentation at first but quickly reveals very attractive and complex notes of vineyard peach, mint, thyme, rosemary, and fresh almond. The wine is superbly playful and structured on the palate and leaves a splendidly long and captivating feel of fresh orchard fruits. This is a superb Kabinett." -Mosel Fine Wines
