Lauer
Kabinett Trilogy
A thrilling side-by-side, by side...

{ Lauer's top vineyards, filtered through one of the world's most thrilling genres: the Saar Kabinett }
sold out

Lauer "Kabinett Triology" Three-Pack
1 bottle 2023 Lauer Kupp Kabinett
1 bottle 2023 Lauer Lambertskirch Kabinett
1 bottle 2023 Lauer Schonfels Kabinett

It's funny, when you meet the always-smiling Florian Lauer, who in his mid-40s still bounds around a room like a puppy dog, he seems like just a very, very nice guy.

Start talking wine with Florian... and you realize quickly how truly driven (insane?) he is - how truly, irrationally (insanely?) specific and focused he is.

I mentioned that for the vintage 2022, Lauer had only two casks of Kupp Kabinett. To him, each one tasted better on its own compared to the blend. This fact pained him. Clearly, it would have been soooo much easier just to blend them together and have one offering.

But he just couldn't do it. He bottled each one separately. Yes, each bottle had the exact same label, other than the AP number. No one noticed this tiny detail. No one cared. In the end, it didn't matter to anyone... except Florian Lauer, who believed in his heart of hearts that each cask deserved to preserve its identity. And so that's what he did.

Yes, even in the gloriously inefficient and detail-oriented world of German wine (which god I do love), Florian Lauer is on a different level.

For this offer, however, we present a bigger picture. Here we offer all three of Lauer's top terroirs - Kupp, Lambertskirch and Schonfels - filtered through the prism of one of the world's most thrilling genres: The Saar Kabinett.

If the difference between the casks was subtle, we assure you this trilogy is not. The sites speak so clearly, so distinctly, that it's impossible when tasting side-by-side(-by side) not to notice the differences.

The Kabinett somehow seems to be able to polish away any static, any background noise. You can taste the music so clearly through the Kabinett.

Kupp is the most complete; it tip toes up to the line of exotic, nearly to luscious stone fruit, yet there it remains, never crossing the line, a ballerina perfectly poised, edged by the zing of citrus, green herbs, and mineral.

Lambertskirch smells like a cotton candy machine on overdrive in the middle of a flower garden. Its perfumes are kaleidoscopic, layered, expressive, almost saturating. A rose grown on solid slate.

Finally, Schonfels is, as it always is, the most mineral. It smells as if a brick of slate has just been shattered; it is profoundly saline. There is fruit here, green citrus mostly, yet in one of the most delicious role reversals of any wine, the fruit is deep and coiled up, buried under the mountain of slate and mineral that washes over the palate.

The Saar Kabinett, a near mythological wine, is with Lauer at its most elevated level, truly second to none... yet priced for us all.

Drink now or for the next decade and celebrate genius... and a touch of insanity.
