This offer has become one of my favorite Source Material traditions. There is just something so magical and cool about big bottles - and I don't see 5.0 liters out there all that much. (Photograph above shows the scale of the 5.0L next to a regular bottle.)

Given the dramatic increase in interest for Emrich-Schönleber, this hardly needs to be stated anymore, but for us Emrich-Schönleber is simply one of the greatest estates in Germany, a part of our holy trilogy that includes Keller and Schäfer-Fröhlich.

Have no doubt: Demand (and pricing) will follow an upward trajectory in the next decade, so this offer today represents not only the rare chance to grab a cornerstone bottling for your cellar, but also represents a serious value.

Now, what about the vintage? 

We'll of course have a full vintage report coming - I spent two weeks in March 2024 visiting some 40+ estates; I sampled a few centerpiece bottlings from Emrich-Schönleber though not the Halenberg GG. Yet, the general fingerprint of 2023 seems to be one that is in certain ways similar to 2020 or 2022, which is to say exuberant and juicy, airy and expansive. While 2023 was warm, the latter half of the year also had sufficient rain (a godsend after the dry 2022), so the wines have more "stuffing," more concentration, dry extract and grip.

Time will tell, but 2023 may prove to be a vintage with a very long life ahead of it.

Note that while we have to confirm our order for these custom bottles by the end of April, the Halenberg GG will not be available for delivery until after September 1st, 2024, as per the rules set down by the VDP for the GG bottlings.
